Fred Harding hat folgendes geschrieben: | It evident that modern literature and motion pictures are intent on titillating and shocking audiences, and like "The Passion of the Christ", resort to creative violence and psychopathic horror, to fulfill an ever increasing demand. In a way, people nowadays are no different from those who enjoyed the barbaric scenes of violence and death at the Roman Colosseum, and who shouted with joy and seeing a fellow human torn to shreds by animals, or killed by gladiators, or worse still. set on fire to lighten the darkness. The more blood and gore they witnessed, the more they wanted. It is a vicious circle. Mel Gibson's film has reached new levels of violence that no other film has ever portrayed. One can be certain that other films will follow from other directors, who will endeavour to outdo this film to cater for the demands of the audience. While Americans are much more sophisticated today on many subjects, nudity continues to induce very charged reactions. Even among scholars, the mere mention of nudity is likely to degenerate into wisecracks and old-fashioned moralizing. Commercial television programming, prime time or not, still avoids nudity, though ABC's "NYPD Blue" does show partial nudity. Occasionally, topless women and mothers nursing babies may appear in a documentary. |
