Didn't the Germans who grew up in the GDR learn Russian instead of English?
I would say that our school system teaches enough English to have good head start. But I really doubt that even a majority of our bord members could follow a conversation about atheism, politics or philosophy. That's why I either translate or summarize any english articles I link to.

You mentioned it already in another thread and I think you are right. Even if I can follow an english text it just takes more time to read long articles in other languages.

The fertility in Mexico is 2.42 according to the CIA factbook. That is not perfectly sustainable yet, but close.
A low birthrate will not only save the environment, it is a necessary prerequisite for welfare and abolishion of poverty. Only a stable population allows a country to improve the conditions for its people, rather than having to constantly keep up with the rapidly expanding population and their needs.
But I don't understand, why you, as a German, would be a member of on organization that argues for decreased population growth. Germans and Austrians will become extinct, if we don't manage to increase our fertility rates.

Catholics don't do that. They give you dirty looks and will talk about you behind your back.
Anyway, a friend of mine stayed in Mexico once and he perceived the country to be very religious. One of the things he noticed was that Mexicans would refer to god quite frequently, which was unusual for him as somebody coming from Vienna. Over here you can go by for months, without ever hearing anybody refer to religious concepts or god.
In the more religious rural areas of Austria, the Catholics don't converse about God, but instead about the Church, the Pope, pilgrimages and other Church-related activities and concepts. There seems to be a kind of unwritten consensus among catholic laymen, that it is not their's to do theological debates or assertions. It is kind of like in Judaism, where the name of God is not to be pronounced and circumscriptions ought also be used only with care and consideration.

I have been to Mexico a couple of times and I noticed that every car driver has an image of Maria or Jesus or some saint hanging on their rearview mirror. From this and other things I had this same perception too. Maybe it is rather superstition than belief in the dogmas of a church. Anyway, in Mexico such things are much more present than it would be thinkable in Europe.

Well I´m way beyond that. You see I have publicly admited that I´m an atheist, so in my circule of friends and relatives that is well known, ergo they do not try to evangelise me any more.
I supose that only those who have not yet publicly admited their atheism have that problem.

I do not think that it is becoming, rather it is a very well stablish practice that we are fighting to eliminate.
The man in my avatar is the leader of such movement.
